Partner Providers

Community Children’s Centres SA is proud to partner with the South Australian Government to offer free child health and development checks to families in the Murray and Mallee, Fleurieu – Kangaroo Island, Roxby Downs and Outback – North and East.

To deliver these checks, we’re working in partnership with Family Paediatrics, whose nurse practitioners bring the clinical expertise needed to support your child’s health and development. Checks monitor your child’s health and development, celebrate milestones, identify any needs early, and connect you with the right support – giving your child a flying start in life.

We are also engaging with Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS), the state’s leading provider of comprehensive child health and development checks and early parenting support from birth to 5 years.

The first 5 years of life are critical for your child’s health, development and learning. During this time, the brain and body grow at their fastest rate, shaping language, social skills, emotional wellbeing and thinking skills.

To help your child thrive in these important early years, 7 milestone checks are recommended in South Australia from birth to 5 years.

Here’s when they happen:

  • 1 – 4 weeks (See CaFHS or your preferred healthcare provider).
  • 8 weeks (See CaFHS or your preferred healthcare provider).
  • 6 – 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 18 – 24 months
  • 3 years
  • 4 – 5 years

Community Children’s Centres SA delivers checks from the 5 to 9 month milestone onwards. We will tailor the check for your child’s age.

FAQs

What happens during a child health and development check?

A qualified nurse practitioner will spend time with you and your child in a relaxed, supportive appointment.

Checks may include:

  • Checking growth, feeding, sleep, hearing and vision.
  • Providing age-appropriate developmental screening.
  • Reviewing immunisation status.
  • Talking about everyday routines and milestones.
  • Answering your questions.
  • Offering guidance about what to expect next.

There is also space to talk about family wellbeing or any concerns you may have, if that could be helpful for you.

Appointments usually take around one hour. This allows time for a thorough check, conversation, and questions without feeling rushed.

Families are welcome to book a free check through our partners page at Little Grove.

If your child has missed a recommended check, you can still book one with us. We’ll review your child’s growth and development and talk through any questions you may have.
